Holy crap.

This looks disgusting and epic and I will probably make and consume it someday just to see if I survive.

Dear at Least Four Guys Who Started at 9:00:01 AM on My Street,

There has never been, and never will be, any leaf-blowing so urgent that it has to happen before noon.

No love,
The girl who got 3.5 hours of sleep thanks to your dumb asses

Leave a comment saying, "COMMENT" and I will give you five words I associate with you.
Then post about what they mean to you, along with this, at your journal.

[livejournal.com profile] sunsingergirl handed me: Mello, kittehs, silly boxers, sourdough, aaaaaaaaand smoking.

these are a few of my favorite things )

- My security alarm keeps going off randomly, when it's not even armed. My dark circles are starting to rival L's.

- Every time I come across "circadian" in an article, I get "Daysleeper" stuck in my head. Yes, the main reason I know this word is REM.

- Hee, one of the references in this article starts with "Mello CC."

- Should I be worried that I can smoke using no hands, except to flick ashes?

Wow, I haven't logged in as me in a while. Took me a sec to find my username in ljlogin. XD

It's been snowing all day, and pretty determinedly for the last little while. I went outside to smoke about an hour ago and stuck my lighter into the snow on the deck railing to check the depth. When I went out just now, the little hole I'd made was gone, and the snow was about 1/2" deeper. That's, like, real snowfall!

I was out of catfud this morning, in my grand tradition of needing something or other when it's snowing. (When I lived in Boston, it snowed three feet one April 1, and ex-hubby and I were out of almost everything. We walked to the grocery store about 4 blocks away, over the Newton T stop pedestrian bridge. It was so cool! The snow had piled up to make most of a tunnel over the tracks.) I was internally mocking all the other drivers when I went out. The roads were only wet then, but everyone was doing their, "OHSHI- WHITE STUFF! FALLING FROM THE SKIES! WHAT DO WE DOOOOOO?" routine. But I wouldn't want to be out in it now. The road at the bottom of my hill is actually white.

Food poisoning. D: D: D: I'm not sure if the real culprit was the fish sandwich or the few drinks on top of it, but becoming a vegan teetotaler is sounding pretty good right about now.

I felt too crappy to smoke, and I've smoked when I had bronchitis, and I've smoked when I half-suspected I was having a heart attack, so you know I felt like thirty-two flavors of utter death.

Better today, enough to go out for coffee and groceries (and get soaked in the rain, wow). My sourdough pets are growing nicely on their own. I think I may try turning one of 'em into bread. Maybe I'll throw together some lentil stew, too. I hope the dough doesn't take 8 hours to rise again! :/
darkluna: (teddy-tongue)
I had no idea sourdough was this big thing that people devote a lot of time to, until I hunted around online to see why mine wasn't rising properly.

The problem seems to be that my first loaf was from starter that was too immature, I didn't knead it enough, and I didn't know it would take hours and hours to rise. The first loaf was doughy and flat. The second was a lot better, but still not what I'd call ideal. It tastes pretty good, and rose up much better, because I gave it enough time (overnight, seriously!). It's like a slightly sour white bread, but it's not sourdough.

Now I have two little starters/science projects hanging out in my kitchen. One is the white-wheat one from which I made the first two loaves, and one is a bit of that original starter that I've been feeding with whole-wheat flour. They're getting nice and bubbly, which is a good sign, but they're not growing like they ought to just yet. Patience is the key, and god knows I need to cultivate more of it. XD I fed them today, and need to let them think about that until they start to grow on their own.

In other cooking adventures, I grilled salmon for the first time ever, and that was a definite success. It took longer than I expected (the filets were really thick), but came out yummy. I flaked it up and had it over butter rice, with some asparagus. YUM.

my net connection clearly needs levitra or something, because lately, it CANNOT stay up. :p

Warnings: AU, and of course the potty mouths
Word Count: 737
Summary: Mello is determined not to age gracefully.
Notes: This is on the silly side, but came out less cracky than I expected. Written for [livejournal.com profile] dn_contest's "fat" prompt.

It's for useless little posts like this that I occasionally ponder getting on Twitter... :D

My WiiFit age is younger than my actual age now! Go me!
darkluna: (anya-box)
In accordance with my theory that you should get to do over the years that weren't any fun, I'm calling 2009 an almost total loss. Let's try that again, without the sucking, hm?

Also in accordance with this theory, I'll be celebrating my 25th birthday in a couple of days. :)

My new year's resolution is to never again allow a year to suck so hard that I have to write the entire thing off.

Title: Conspiracy
Rating: G !!!
Characters: L and Watari
Warnings: It's silly!
Word Count: 576
Notes: I always have crazy dreams when I'm on drugs for the flu. :D This is a little piece written for [livejournal.com profile] dn_contest's "flu" week.
Summary: L's enemies were obviously much more devious than he'd given them credit for.

To Watari's considerable credit, L would think later, after his fever had broken, he didn't even crack a smile )

I threw this together today, and it came out really yummy: spicy, thick, and hearty.

om nom nom )

comment!fic for my dear [livejournal.com profile] shiny_glor_chan, and the prompt Death Note, Mello/Matt, they were just a bunch of numbers to Kira but that would change.

No one's going to write us off )

This isn't for my sign, but I'm going to pretend it's my horoscope anyway:

The week ahead will be a ripe time to pull off magic reversals. May I suggest that you try to transform dishwater greys into sparkling golds? Or how about recycling the dead energy of a lost cause in such a way as to generate raw fuel for a fresh start? I'm confident, Gemini, that you'll be able to discover treasure hidden in the trash, and that you'll find a way to unleash the creative zeal that has been trapped inside polite numbness. Now ponder this riddle, please: Do you think there's any mystical significance in the fact that the word "stressed" is "desserts" spelled backwards?

Also, I haz a souffle. I'd never made one before!

Something woke me up at 8 AM this morning. It was either the absence of noise, because my power was out, or the bright white outside when one of the cats opened my bedroom curtains. It snowed!

I got up and took some pictures, and I'm glad I did, because after I slept a few more hours, the snow was almost all gone!

snow! )

I have a back issue of Vegetarian Times with about six soup recipes I want to make! I made some red lentil soup that was yummy, and today I'm making a potage with basil-walnut pesto to top it with. I like bringing home a bag from the grocery store with carrot greens and leeks sticking out of it. It makes me feel virtuous. XD

For the prompt: Death Note, Matt/Mello, picking up the pieces

I'll carry you through this burning land )

I was telling someone about a tradition ex-hubby and I picked up in San Francisco, and it was as if I saw it from the outside, and saw that it was maybe a little weird.

We moved from Boston to SF on three weeks' notice. We got to the toll booth on the Bay Bridge, and the attendant said the people in the car ahead of us had paid for us. It seemed like a good omen at the time. (Little did I know that within months, I'd be trying to cook a dozen starving start-up geeks Thanksgiving dinner with $15 to my name, but hey, I got some awfully good stories out of the whole thing.) Anyway, ever since then, I've paid for the car behind me at a toll booth whenever I could afford to. I think the people who did it for me and crism that day in SF saw our Massachusetts plates and were from New England, maybe; or else they just wanted to welcome the newbies. I like to think it's one of those things that people experience or hear about and start doing themselves... like maybe one out of every ten people I pay for will start doing it, and so on and so on. My mom and dad do it at the toll booths in Florida every time they go to Disney World, and they say, "And some Disney magic for the person behind us!"

My Starbucks peeps say that every other week or so, this one guy comes through the drive-in, pays with a $50, and says to apply it to each following person as long as it lasts.

So, friends list, my question to you today is: do you guys have or know of any nifty random acts of kindness like these?
darkluna: (special-hell)
I have this WIP. It's called The Coed, the Princes, the Magician, and His Lover, which will never be the real title. It just amuses me. :) My recurring dilemma is that I find the Magician and His (actually ex-)Lover way more interesting than the Coed and the Prince. This is possibly because they have Issues, and that's always fun.

So I have two potential beginnings to the novel. The first probably makes more sense, and is more linear. The second will entail a big dump o' exposition, but gets me into the POV of the character I like best sooner. So, without further ado, here are the two possibilities. Which, my dahlinks, grabs you more?
