Yes, I hate that too. Mello's too smart to want a spineless yes-man around, and Matt's too smart to be one.
Although, it made me so sad for a moment when Near said, "L can't fall in love."
OK, it's so, so dorky, but I got choked up a little when I wrote that. It was one of those times when I didn't know what the character was going to say until it came out, and then I was like, "Oh, Near." (And yay for getting it. ♥)
