Characters: Mello, Matt
Warnings: Swearing

Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] dn_contest's "everyday life" prompt. Thanks as usual to [livejournal.com profile] vashti for her pre-post sanity check!

It's surprising how much of memory is built around things unnoticed at the time )

I lost my [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic virginity. :D The prompt was "Death Note, Mello/Matt, driving across the desert at night."

Road Music

He doesn't let Mello drive that often; the car is his baby, and as with so many of Mello's ideas, the execution makes for white knuckles and the need to chainsmoke even more and a pulse pounding out a rhythm that sings oh god oh god we're gonna die get caught be grounded 'til we're twenty. But after a while a hundred miles an hour across empty desert starts to feel like hardly moving at all, and Matt lets his arm hang out the open window, lets his head fall back. He hums along to the pieces of songs chasing each other around in his mind, golden ages and pink moons, and Mello, steering with two fingers, laughs.

"You have the attention span of a gnat, Matty."

"Yeah yeah, but you love me."

"Don't push your luck," Mello says, with a smile that probably means just the opposite.

Watching him like this, in the moonlight that turns his hair silvery and softens the hard edges into shadow, Matt could almost pretend this is the life he used to daydream about. Just them, on the road, going from adventure to adventure.

He knew even then it'd never happen, just like he knows this isn't a road trip but a breathing space between battles. But he reaches over and tangles his fingers into Mello's already tangled hair, and grins at him, and tries not to think about how one of the best road-trip songs he knows is also a hymn to unrequited love.

I know it's probably poor form to de-anon, but I think all my friends knew I was tackling this kink meme prompt anyway. Oh, ha, it's actually allowed! :D

I of course spotted a typo as soon as I posted, I can't fix it there, and I'm anal-retentive. (And if Mello/Matt written in present tense with a genderswitch and lots of semicolons doesn't scream "elliefic," I don't know what does, hee.)

I know and you know what's under it all )

(Working) Title: Wind
Rating: R
Word count: About 2600 for this chapter
Spoilers: For everything; is post-one-shot.
Summary: The title still wears Near instead of the other way around, but a new case forces him to re-examine what it means to be L.

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3

Yes, this chapter took forever. It's the reason the story's rated R; thanks a lot, Mello. ;) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] suburbangoth for giving it a look!

Chapter 4 )

Title: The Crackle of the Coming Storm
Fandom: Death Note
Pairing: omg, L x Light
Rating: R
Word count: 1700
Summary: Another attempt to stick the knife in and twist it, and Light wonders if that is all there can ever be between them, before wondering why the hell he'd even want to find out.

Notes: This is a present for [livejournal.com profile] wizefics (as a kind of thank you for the awesome, awesome remix she did), and it's my first time attempting her OTP! I am not a fan of Light, so it was an interesting challenge when this decided it wanted to be in his POV. I still wouldn't call myself a fan, but I think I appreciate him as a character better now. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] char_sama for beta-ing and easing my nerves. :D

Title: one hasn't a why or because or although
Pairing: Matt/Near
Rating: PG-13 for swearing and tame yaoi
Word count: 5000
Spoilers: Not really. Matt's real last name.
Summary: Caring about anything had never come easily to Matt, and he could unlearn it, right?

Notes: The title and cut text are from e.e. cummings's poem "if everything happens that can't be done" (so are lowercase on purpose *g*). Many thanks to my beta, the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] angryhamster. There are more notes (this is what I get for using a foreign language), and they're under the cut.

Title: How To Shoot Somebody Who Outdrew You
Rating: NC-17
Characters: Mello/Near
Word count: 4200
Spoilers: Through Chapter 77.
ObDisclaimer: Not mine! She says, as they both breathe a sigh of relief.

Summary: Near was almost enough of a bastard to be interesting, Mello thought sometimes, but quickly banished that idea, making a mental note to possibly burn it out of his brain if he could find the offending synapses.

Notes: It's naughty, but there's more to it than just naughtiness. (People seemed to disagree with my calling it semi-PWP. *g*) The title is, of course, from Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah." Feedback is always cherished and adored. Thanks and worship to my lovely beta, [livejournal.com profile] norrell.

Title: Morning of a New World
Rating: G
Summary: It would be understatement bordering on absurdity to call Near the strangest boss he's ever worked for.
Word count: 710
ObDisclaimer: Not mine!

Notes: GevannixNear if you want to see it, or just friendship if you want to see that. I myself am not quite sure which is really is. :-) All my WIPs had started to seem grim (even the pronz), so I decided to write something shorter and a little more lighthearted.

Here you go, mai darlings! Actually-not-as-utter-crack-as-I-expected bodyswap story. :D Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] belgatherial for proofing!

Title: The Switch
Fandom: Death Note, with a dash of Harry Potter. You know, for realism.
Characters and/or pairings: A lovely bowl of M and N alphabet soup. (OK, um. MelloxNear, MattxNear, and kind of MelloxMatt.)
Rating: PG-13 for everyone's potty mouth, and for some minor shenanigans.
Spoilers: Nope!
Word count: 5200
Summary: Mello wakes up in Near's body, and vice versa.
ObDisclaimer: Not mine!

Did he always look that dotty, or was Mello overacting? )
darkluna: (mello-hell)
One last romp in [livejournal.com profile] camillabloom's universe. 'cause it's just not fic by me without awkwardness. I hope you don't mind, m'dear, and I hope it fulfils at least some of your desire for fluff. :-D

Oh, and the word count for this, including the title? 666. I... don't even know what to say.

(Still PG-13ish, still crack, still the fault of alien mind control.)

Mostly accidentally anyway )
darkluna: (mello-hell)
...and they used it to write comment!fic for a fandom [livejournal.com profile] camillabloom invented singlehandedly. I dunno, I can't fathom their reasons. It's, um. Kind of. Mello/L/Bill Kaulitz. Or something. Looks PG-rated to me.

Wrath with really good fashion sense )

ETA: The aliens are also beaming the thought into my brain that L and Bill have pretty similar hairstyles. And there's the eyeliner (or sleep deprivation). And Operative C's research has turned up other similarities as well. Hmm. If you were totally, truly, not gay, but there was this pretty boy who liked you, you'd probably want to be sure he liked you, right? Y'know, as a point of interest. :D

ETA again. Oh, dear fuck, there's more. This looks PG too. At least the aliens have some discretion. But they are are beaming music directly to my MP3 player. That's the only explanation I have for how that Tokio Hotel got on there.

Mello's not the only one who gets jealous )

Yeah. Slow day at work.
darkluna: (Default)
Something about this story has me second-guessing myself all over the place. I put in subplots, and take 'em out, and put 'em back in. I mess mess mess with it, and still feel half-tempted to throw my hands up and trash the whole thing. Difficult plot is difficult.

So I have a question for you, my lovelies: Doing it wrong: y/n? (I'm very thick-skinned when it comes to my writing [been doing it since I was 5, yo], so don't hesitate to say something isn't working. I won't cry!) OOH! And I think some of the actual plot is going to change, but it doesn't affect this section too much.

Start o' the WIP )
