Can there really be 100 or so yen to a dollar?

I'm ordering some gorgeous doujinshi from my Japanese friend (her site is here), and I'm almost embarrassed by how little she's charging. I wonder if it would be appropriate to send her some Seattle chocolate too as an extra thank-you?

That's approximately what the exchange rate was when I went to Japan last year. They have 100 yen shops instead of dollar stores in Tokyo. We spent quite a bit of time in a couple of them.

Ah, Japan. Land of cheap, high-quality printing, so that things like Comiket can thrive. Sigh.

Anyway, this is a really bad time of year to send chocolate, since it's the height of summer there, and everyone says the heat is worse than usual this time of year.

Nice artwork!

Hi, The lowest I've ever seen the yen was $1=88 yen in the summer of
'94. Now's good though. When I first went to Japan in 1981, it was 248 yen!!

Basically it's 90 degrees every day now in Tokyo and the trouble is, it doesn't cool
off much at night. People are running air-con all night long or going to the mountains.

(I'm Vamplover84's friend, aka koan16).
