(no subject)

The timing worked out quite brilliantly so that I no longer have to commute over to the Evil Empire just as the rainy season and the baseball playoffs are starting. For the next few days, I'm an Angels fan. I may even watch some of the NL division series to see how comically [livejournal.com profile] ordinarywhirled's boys whup the Padres.

I plan to use what feels like a vacation to do some housecleaning, both physical and mental. My study and my brain are full of stacks of things I'm holding onto for no good reason. I may not be as much of a practicing witch as I could be, but my internal calendar is firmly set with Samhain as the end of the year. I feel that it's October, not December, that gives the year the colorful sendoff it deserves.

Comute

Is your contract up or are you just in a slow period where they don't need you as often?

Actually, in typical Evil Empire fashion, they started really needing me right when my contract was about to be over, and couldn't keep me. :p

I don't understand why they keep needing you, but won't actually hire you. Is there some rule against hiring people for your position or something??

Apparently.

Press is kind of the ugly stepchild of the Evil Empire, as far as I can tell. The trend has been to have fewer and fewer people but the same amount of work. I think the secret goal is to have no actual employees and somehow still produce books. It would be a brilliant business strategy if it were possible!

I know a girl who just got promoted to a PM position over there, I think. Her name is Jill. Shoulder length wavy (true) blonde hair. I bet you don't know her, though, huh?

Wow. Maybe we should have a phone conversation at some point since we seem to be so good at these back and forth messages :)

ALL of ESPN's experts picked the Astros to beat the Braves, most of them saying 3-1. I LOVE us being the 'dogs!
