I think you need to see him actually doing something to like him. I hated him from his little quippy bullshit on those shows too, but that changed when I saw Wet Hot American Summer. Seeing him in action (or possibly just seeing him get some action - yay) lifted the hate retroactively. When you see him doing what he's good at, thus putting the smarmy bastardry in context, it's all much more palatable. I found him loathsome before, and post-film, I find him sort of attractive. Give it a go - it'll make watching VH1 a lot easier, at the very least.
