I was hanging out with my seven-year-old friend yesterday, and at one point she sighed and said "There are too many new things."

She's very smart and cool and precocious, but in my day, we didn't start getting jaded until fourteen or so.

Later that afternoon, Mona was sitting on the shoes as if they were the comfiest clean laundry.

[livejournal.com profile] zinnea called me up for dinner, and as luck would have it, she was very close to a good Indian restaurant. Every time I go to this restaurant, I have malai kofta, which is my yardstick for measuring how good an Indian restaurant is. I've long since concluded this one is good, but the kofta is so yummy, I never got past it. Until last night! I had shahi paneer, whose sauce was described on the menu as "with fruits," but I didn't really believe that until it came and I saw cherries and grapes cooked in. It was odd but tasty.

Then we went to Mr. Spot's Chai House, yum yum yum. There was a band playing. At first it was just one guy noodling on guitar, and I thought it would be brilliant if I could just have a guitarist follow me around improvising all day. Chai, soft couch, music--I probably would still be there if smoking were allowed inside. Well, except for the fact that the band kept sprouting members and stopped doing instrumental stuff in favor of spoken-word with musical accompaniment, and OK, guys, don't have lyrics just for the sake of having them. [livejournal.com profile] zinnea and I decided they were like Beats gone goth, which cracked us up, and once you start finding stuff like that funny, you can't look at the culprits with a straight face, so we soon left.

After I got home, my former neighbor finally came and picked up Cortez.

Here's Mr. Tez )

Then I watched Lilo & Stitch. When I got teary at the opening hula bit, I realized I had a bit of the PMS. I just love that movie, though. I decided I needed to go back to Kauai soon. When the movie was over and I switched back to the TV, the first thing I saw was...Kauai, and someplace I've actually been. It was the Beach House, and I still remember the delicious curry muffins I ate there whilst on my honeymoon, oh god, almost 10 years ago. So: going back soonish. Maybe late this year. I can't afford to go while it's cold in Seattle right now, but for maximum enjoyment, I feel it should be a getaway from icky coldness as well as to the gorgeousness.
