People keep saying things to me that imply I am this whole different person out there, in the world, from who I am in my own little head. Like somehow I manage to pretend to be reasonably confident and well-adjusted, and I do it convincingly enough that no one knows what a big dork I am, or that I feel like I've floated away from my life, and the parts that make me who I am are somewhere that's nowhere, and my body is just toddling along doing work and stuff. That may be why I come across as confident. Because I'm so detached that I don't give a damn. People always tell you to live in the moment, but no one tells you what to do to wade back into life when you've gone away.
