Jan. 15th, 2006 05:00 pmHave been quite busy offline fighting off some kind of stomach bug and reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, which I am, as usual, probably the last of my crowd to read. It is wonderful. It's a good deal like the fantasy novel Jane Austen might have written, had her inclinations been in that direction. It's definitely causing me to have a hard time not using "shewn" and "chuse" in day-to-day writing! (I've always thought "shewn" a tremendously useful word anyway.)
Today I am making kamameshi (Japanese one-pot rice casserole) and using bamboo shoots and burdock root in cooking for the first time. I also got some mountain potato, but have yet to figure out what I want to make with it.
Anya is singing a little "I have a paper bag handle, but you should get the fishing pole and play with me" song.
