OK, LJ, we get it:
Aug. 3rd, 2007 06:51 pmYou hate fandom. (Goes to
bubble_blunder's excellent page o' info on the latest deletions.) Or possibly they just hate teh gay; I am not the only one to notice that they're only going after slash artists.
There are two problems here. The first is that LJ isn't adhering to its own Terms of Service, which haven't been officially revised since 4/2006, and under which people are supposed to be notified if their content is deemed objectionable and given a chance to remove it. In this latest asshattery, two fan artists were permanently banned with no warning and apparently no avenue for reinstatement or self-defense. If LJ wants people to follow their rules, they have to tell us what the rules are.
The second problem is that the content on which LJ is basing bannination isn't even illegal. Depictions of fictional characters in erotic or otherwise possibly offensive situations are perfectly legal. Plus, the art in question was disclaimered and friends locked, and having seen one of the pictures in question, I can say that both characters in it look perfectly consenting and of age. So what LJ really appears to be doing is removing content they happen to dislike and hiding behind a banner of OMG Won't Someone Think of the Children. I can only assume some wacko homophobic group or another is really behind the complaints, though we don't know for sure.
So I'm moving to Insane Journal for good. Here is my profile there. I also have a Greatest Journal. Note that I'm ellief at GJ; darkluna there is someone else. Will probably still check my flist here, though.
