Jan. 29th, 2008 03:40 pmGah, fanfic ideas. Stopitstopitstopit. Have ginormous, over-ambitious Near backstory thing sitting in my head. And I'm not sure I can actually write him. It's so, so hard when you try to write in the POV of a character a lot smarter than you. Mello's smarter than I am, but I feel like I get him, you know? I guess I'm an extrovert on paper.
Jeez, the hallmarks of my writing are probably like so:
1. Insanely long titles, usually referencing lyrics.
2. The "let's rewrite all of canon... yay?" syndrome. I've already got one DN story and one FMA story like this. Epic and ambitious to the point of insanity, and almost always doomed to failure. The FMA one is rejiggering the whole movie to include the idea of Narnia, and the DN one is rejiggering the whole series to let Naomi actually work on the Kira case. *sigh*
3. Unfinished-but-intriguing ideas littering the path behind me, since I am still rather half-assed about finishing things.
4. Lots and lots of description. Oodles of it. Warehouses of it. Gritty, dusty, chilly warehouses with abandoned forklifts and... um. Yeah. Description.
5. Characters almost never say the words "I love you." I think Mello's two favorite substitutes are "Shut the fuck up" and "You're such a girl." :-D
6. First kisses galore, because I am bent for them like a friggin' bobby pin. Also, stoic pining and apparently-unrequited love. There's oh so much yearning.
7. Any time I really like a character, I do something horrible to him. My favorite original character? Stranded in the 1500s in one of those sacrificing-himself-to-save-everyone-else maneuvers that also kill me. Another favorite? Bonkers and awkward, with addiction issues leik woa. And then there's poor A. *sigh* But for most of the fandoms I write in, canon has already been pretty mean to the characters, so I try to be nice.
