remixredux08 this year. Death Note was one the fandoms they accepted this time around, but I didn't end up actually remixing a DN story. I kind of wish I had gotten to.
So I'm thinking of running a Death Note-only remix. Because I hate myself. Or I love the fandom. Or some combination of the two. ;-)
With a single-fandom remix, I think we could sort folks out according to preferred characters and/or pairings. One of my huge worries in RemixRedux was that I'd end up with an L/Light writer, or that one would end up with me, and someone would fall into despair. (I still don't know if the person who got my stuff found it despair-free - I hope so!)
I thought I'd run this by you guys, f'list, as a fairly representative sample of fandom folks and writers, and see if people would be up for it.
Basically, you'd need some amount of completed fic to qualify. I don't know exactly what would be appropriate. You'd sign up with your list of stories and what pairings or characters you want to write for, and I'd try my best to match everyone up with a compatible writer. The remix concept is that you take someone else's story and rework it. Tell what happened before, what happened next, what someone other than the original POV character was thinking during it, whatever! (But keeping pairings and the basic plot intact.) And this would be on a totally voluntary, sign-up-only basis; no one would grab anyone's fic without their permission. There'd be a generous deadline, giving a month or six weeks to write the remix. And then we'd all post, and say yay! ...one hopes.
One aspect of the multifandom remix is the anonymity. The remixers' names aren't revealed until after the stories have been up for a little while. I don't know if we'd need to do that. It would be nice to keep it a secret who has been assigned to whom until the stories go up. Oh, and the person you're remixing would not be the person remixing you.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I a stupid? Is it madness to try this before the dubbies know who Mello and Near are?
