It's getting close - I hope to finish it this week.
(Working) Title: The Mystery of the Librarian and the Love Potion
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairings: Hawkeye/Mustang and Sciezka/Havoc
Rating: totally PG
Riza wasn't sure how she knew without even turning around that Mustang had stepped into the firing range. She always knew it was him. Her working theory was that the air felt charged around him all the time.
She adjusted her grip the slightest bit and put six perfectly-spaced holes in the target. Looked back at him. "Do you need something?"
"Oh, just admiring your—form." He left a pause exactly short enough to avoid outright lewdness.
Riza pulled off her goggles and blinked at him. She'd long since decided that Mustang flirted at her, not with her: that she spent enough time with him to get caught in the general flirtation he exuded.
This felt different.
"Actually," he went on, abruptly shifting to all business, "there's something I'd like your opinion on."
"All right." She holstered the gun and walked with him through Central's maze of corridors to his office.
"What do you make of this?" Mustang said, picking up a small metal object from his desk and holding it out to her.
It looked like a dragonfly, but about twice as big, with metal wings, one of which twitched and emitted a faint buzz every few seconds.
Riza held it up to the light for a better look, frowning slightly. "Could it contain a listening device?" Maybe it doesn't just look like a bug."
"I don't know," Mustang said. "Fuery caught it in the mess this afternoon."
Riza shook it experimentally, and it released a puff of pink vapor. "Hey!" she said, and sneezed.
Mustang was at her side so quickly he might have vaulted over the desk. "Are you all right?"
"I'm fine. Great, actually." She giggled a little. He was funny, that Roy. And always looking out for her, and handsome... She put a hand on his shoulder and gazed up at him.
His eyebrows had risen so far they were almost hidden by his bangs.
"What?" Riza said.
***
She woke up in the infirmary, Mustang sitting at the table beside her bed, bent over a stack of papers.
"What was that?" she said muzzily. Her head throbbed, but dully, as if it had hurt a lot some time ago.
"There was some sort of gas in that thing. Do you remember anything?"
Riza sat up and leaned against the pillows. She didn't feel too bad anymore. Except... "I remember," she said. "Sir, I must apologize for my unprofessional behavior."
"Eh." He waved a hand languidly. "Think nothing of it."
She tried to stop blushing, and focused on the problem at hand to distract herself. "Did anyone come into contact with the device other than you, me, and Fuery?"
"I don't think so."
"Did either one of you feel any effects?"
"Not that I noticed. Wait. I was in a good mood."
Riza permitted herself a small smile. "You are usually in a good mood, sir."
"Not this morning, I wasn't. Now that I think about it, I cheered up right around the time Fuery brought me that thing."
Riza had felt pretty good herself. Right up until passing out. "Hmm."
"What is it? Any ideas?"
"Not really. It's just odd."
