He never feels stupid or like he's being judged when he's with him.
Exactly. That's one thing that makes this pairing so nice to write.
Because I think, deep down, Mello is a good guy and I like the idea of his 'code' when it comes to Near.
I think that Mello has morals that are very strong, but not necessarily in line with other people's (he really seems to me like a knight, and there's a war on, so he does what he has to do, you know?), and that he's fucked up, but almost always does things for the right reasons, even if they're not the right things. Oops, I think I got my headcanon on you. :D
