Man, rookie mistake in the dealings with the new boy. I tried a slightly too-advanced maneuver. "You call me, or I'll call you," I said. "Whatever."

No! No no no. Bad darkluna! That leaves it open for him to leap right in and say "I'll call you." Don't go for the extreme casualness unless you can pull it off, kiddies.

I'm supposed to be the one who calls. I decide when we talk. I do it! Not the boy! Basic tenet of dealing with the opposite sex here! Oy vey. I clearly need to go to remedial dating school.

Quite the little couch case when it comes to relationships, aren't you? Shouldn't relationships be a mutual, equally-yoked sort of thing, Drill Sergeant?

That was partly a joke. I am not one who lives by any set of rules.

However, I've found to my chagrin that I tend not to set boundaries early on in relationships, so I have to be a hardass in the beginning lest I get pissed off later.
