I don't cry very often about real-life things, but I cry over movies and books like nobody's business. I've cried during My Neighbor Totoro, every time I've read the end of Little, Big, and at least once over the Inuyasha manga. (Titanic? Total loss from the time Thomas Andrews resets the clock all the way to the closing credits.)

So I cried over Phantom of the Opera even though I didn't particularly like any of the characters. Except Carlotta. She rocked. It was a very pretty movie, I admit, but I didn't feel any suspense at all (and I haven't read the book or seen the stage production). I didn't see any reason Christine would prefer Erik, except for ones I made up after thinking it over, none of which were supported by the movie itself. I could see where the reasons were supposed to go, but they didn't actually put them in. They kinda skimped on the whole genius/musical mentor thing, yah? But the falling chandelier was effing cool. I watched that twice. I think the music filled in a lot of the emotional spaces that the story itself left open. You know how really cheesy lyrics can seem cool when they're in a good song? The whole movie was like that.

The cats got flea drops yesterday. Mona took a swing at me and caught me across the palm with her tiny claws of death. OUCH. Why do they act like I'm coming at them with a chainsaw when all I want to do is squirt maybe 1/8 of a teaspoon of stuff between their shoulders? Sure, it stinks, but jeez, cats. The hissing and hiding and trauma! I know it does not hurt. You are not fooling me.

Interesting. I figured you as the type too cool to admit emotion at Titanic. Not like "too cool for school" attitude wise, but literally TOO. COOL. :-)

And yes, Victor Garber as Thomas Andrews is divine, and inspires some of the most tearful moments.

I cry a lot at movies, books, and music. I'm easily affected by those. But I also cry often in everday life.

I've seen the stage version of Phantom and it's beautiful. I'd heard the movie wasn't as magic so I never ended up seeing it.

I always cry when I read the end of Little, Big, too.

My cats are relatively okay about getting flea drops, but my dog acts like I'm trying to kill her with them. And don't even bring up the subject of brushing near her. That's even worse.
