I've reached a point where if someone I know posts something and employs "teh", I assume they're doing it ironically, and giggle.

I do that. The significance of it has metamorphosized and I adore it.

Yup. The only thing is that I consider it a fannish thing, so when a non-fandom friend does it, I have a second where I think How does he know about that? It's like when my mom randomly comes out with things like "You think Jin is hotter than Johnny Depp?!"
