Another snag in the treehouse-buying process. SIGH.

The appraisal came back much cheaper than the selling price. The problem with this is that my mortgage folks won't give me any more than the appraised value, which means one of the following has to happen:

- The people who made us go up on the offer must be persuaded to knock $20k off the price.

- I have to come up with that $20k myself. (If I had $20k to play with, I would still be in Seattle.)

- My agent has to convince them their appraisal is ridiculous. Luckily this is the exact word he used to describe it. He didn't actually swear, because he is clearly one of those southern boys who was brought up to believe that one doesn't, but he certainly spoke more warmly than I had heard him do thus far.

I'm keeping all fingers crossed for the third option!

In other news, I introduced my mom to Bejeweled and more of that intarwebs slangs (she already says "yays!" :-)), so now she asks if she can use my machine to play the splodey game.

I dreamed again that I was married to Kevin Whelan. Has my dream casting director finally grown tired of thwarting me?

How can they refuse to sell for appraised value? Why the frack are you buying at ABOVE appraised value? I'm so confused.

My mortgage company did this appraisal. The price it was selling for had caused no outcry from the agent (who was good about telling us when homes were overpriced) or, more significantly, my dad. So we are trying to make them see that they are on crack.

And good luck with it.

Getting people to accept market value for something that has personal value can be a real beeyatch.

It's actually been a rental home for a long time; I don't think they care that much. But we'll see!

Hang on. Is this the structurally sound option, or the structurally dodgy option?

Good luck with it in any case. Or enjoy hunting all over again from scratch (A process that we repeated 3 times, before buying the house about which, the first time, we said "never in a million years...")
