My mom and I got on to the subject of my sister and me playing in the yard as little kids.

Mom: What on earth were you two doing when you gathered up the cut grass?
me: That was our harvest. We were an agrarian society.
Mom: At six and four years old...I believe it. I always thought you were making nests. You took it down to the ditch and arranged it so neatly.
me: That was our city, and we were storing food for the winter. We had to sing as we gathered it. It was a sort of harvest festival.
Mom: I could hear you singing!
me: We were a simple folk.
Mom: You were a weird folk.

LOL!! It reminds me of my mom talking about my two older sisters playing 'Kimba the white lion' in the back yard. Apparently my eldest sister M was quite the autocrat in that she was always Kimba, and J, the next oldest, was relegated to being the wise baboon. Apparently what was worrisome was the day that M was stalking something and spent a notable amount of time on hands and knees simply moving slooooowly across the yard.

i used to make witch's brews with stuff found in the back yard (water, mud, grass, flowers, etc.) the roly-polies wouldn't eat it, though.
