Always be nice!
Dec. 14th, 2006 11:24 amNiceness = free coffee, sometimes. :-)
I've talked about the people at the Starbucks near my house before. Most mornings, the drive-thru staff is the girl who calls me and my mom troublemakers, the girl who likes my mom 'cause she's always laughing, and the cutest southern-gentleman gay guy you could imagine. The line this morning was almost all the way around the building, so they were getting slammed. But when we got up to the window, the guy said he was giving us a Christmas discount because we're always so nice, and he gave us one of our drinks for free. Aww! They are definitely getting Mommy Cookies and peppermint bark.
I'm sure people are routinely rude to them, and that makes me crazy. They are the makers and givers of coffee. They deserve love and worship!
I also feel everyone should be nice anyway, even with no possibility of free coffee, because you never know how it might end up helping other people. I may be Snarky McSnarkerson about random stupid people, but when I actually have to interact with someone, I really do try to be nice. My mom says her theme song is "Sowing the Seeds of Love," and I like that idea. Kindness spreads outward from you when you plant a little in the world. (The part of me that thinks everything sucks and the part of me that believes in magic are always at war; I think the part that believes in magic may be winning.)
