I was a preteen fanbrat
Mar. 2nd, 2008 10:33 amI said yesterday that I've been writing since I was 5, and this is true. I hunted around and found the first thing I ever wrote, now reproduced here in all its, er, glory. Funnily enough, it's kind of fanfic. I don't remember seeing "The Year Without a Santa Claus" as a child, but I must have, because I think that this was a response to what I saw as Vixen's mistreatment therein.
Cover: HOW VIXEN LEFT THE. NOTH POLE.
Page 1: ONCE. UPON. A. THEER. WAS. A. BIG. BIG. CASEL. ONE. NITHT. SANTA MOVED IN. AND THAT VERY SAME NITH VIXEN. MOVED OUT
Page 2: SHE. WENT ALL OVER. THE.WOLD WORLD. SHE.
Page 3: WENT. TO. CANSAS. SHE. WENT. EVRYRHE.
Page 4 is in my uncle's handwriting, the pressure of creating apparently having worn me out: Finally she went to America. Then she found Alyce. And she loved her and stayed with her forever. The end.
Yes, that's my Real Name thar. Pronounced a-leece, not a-liss. I got over putting myself in stories by the time I was 12 or so.
If I ever find any of the epic Monkees story I wrote before I got over it, I promise to swallow my pride and post some. I have a feeling it'll seem particularly special in retrospect. I was in it as Micky's (?) OMGquirky little sister, and my sister was in it, and a friend from school, and, oh lord. The Ellie character got paired up with Davy, of course. (We were the same height; it was MENT 2 BEEEEE.) But, to my credit, if such a thing is possible at this level of fail, she did kind of get dragged kicking and screaming into admitting she liked him. I loved that sort of thing from very early life.
I give thanks on a regular basis that there was no internets when I was a fanbrat.
