My dad and I went to see U2 3D at the Imax theatre last night. It was so, so freaking cool. I grinned like a loon for the first four songs.
We've gone to a lot of concerts together. When I was younger, we used to take road trips down to Atlanta and Athens. This became a lot nicer once he admitted he knew I smoked, and I didn't have to sneak around any more. One of my favorite memories is going to see Pylon at a really crappy, tiny bar in Chattanooga, and getting there early enough that we got to meet the band and hang out with them in the parking lot. We played frisbee with the guitarist and bassist. Their conversation was entirely food-related. My dad thought Vanessa was cute. We saw REM a couple of times (back when Stipe had hair). He claims we saw the Monkees, and I don't remember this at all, despite the fact that the experience should have seared itself into my twelve-year-old teenybopper brain. So, yeah. Cool dad is cool. :)

Date: 2008-02-18 06:20 pm (UTC)I had to come right home and watch some of Rattle & Hum, 'cause they faked me out on "With or Without You." You know that little coda they do on it in R&H? Every time I've seen them in person or on film since then, I've been like "ohgodohgodpleasedoit." And they never do.
