I kind of want to do
remixredux08, but I'm scared! What if my remixer hates my stuff? What if I hate hers? It's very easy to say, "La la, I can write in the Death Note fandom," but watch me get someone whose OTP is L/Light. And I can just see my remixer looking at my list of stories and thinking, Aw, CRAP, second half.
ETA: Right! Have girded my loins and signed up. eee.

Date: 2008-02-19 07:07 pm (UTC)I've been in your shoes, most definitely. Out of the three years I've done it, two of the stories I remixed were stories that I had problems with: the first story was based on an original that was a character-bashing piece; the second focused on an OTP I haaaaaaaated (unfortunately, just about everything this person wrote was of that OTP).
Buuuuuuuut, there are ways around it by writing a story you enjoy, even if you didn't like the original. I'll give you my examples:
As for being unhappy with the people who remix you, I hate to say it, but that's the chances you take.
Sometimes you're going to get a piece of crap that was written in less than an hour. (http://remix.illuminatedtext.com/dbfiction.php?fiction_id=219) And sometimes you're going to get a masterpiece that'll be even better than your original (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=nwhepcat&keyword=charles+whitman&filter=all). Most fall into this category (http://community.livejournal.com/remix_redux/64298.html): pretty good, competently executed, and an interesting alternative take that isn't disappointing.
But, like I said: It's a crap shoot. If you wanna play, you've got to except going in that no matter how hard you work, there's a 33% chance that you're going to get a crappy story in return. Then again, there's a 33% chance that you'll get a really fantastic story in return.
