Finally, some good job news! I sent my resume for a copy editor job, and they got back to me within twenty minutes! Not only did the woman who answered think I was a good match for that job, she said they were also looking for a production editor, and she had given my info to the person in charge of that. So I ended up taking their tests for both. Now I have to decide which I'd rather have if they like me for both! I am much relieved. I did have to buy Word, though. It's the first time I've ever voluntarily owned Microsoft software.

Friday night I was driving home from the store, and this dumb boy pulled out in front of me when he didn't have room. Crunch. I'm OK, and my car is mostly OK, but her bumper is all scratched, and her hood is dented a bit. It takes an amazing number of phone calls to deal with insurance companies. Fortunately, the other driver was a reasonable person, and apparently said it was his fault (it was!). His insurance company talked to me first, and said if the other driver's version of the accident agreed with mine, they'd line up a body shop and rental car for me. A little after I talked to the insurance guy, I got email with my rental car info, so I assume all is well.

I saw Master & Commander, and it was so cool! Yay!

I know you're the person to ask this. :-) From what I've seen and read, the movie looks like the Jack Aubrey Show. I'm wondering if Maturin gets his proper screen time or not.

I'm going to see it in any case, but I'd still like to know.

For the story they told, I think it was fine. They left out the whole thing about Stephen being a spy (although you could read a couple of things as hints, and Jack doesn't know for a long time in the books anyway), but there's plenty of good interaction between Crowe & Bettany. I think they hit just the right note with their portrayal of the friendship.

Definitely read the books if you haven't done so! I cracked up every time Killick said anything in the movie because he was so perfectly the character from the books.

Oh, I've read them all. I have you to blame thank, actually. You recommended them on TH a couple years ago, and I spent the next four months devouring them one after another. :-)

Yay, I'm an enabler! :-) The movie really gives the feel of life on board. I'm going to have to reread the books with my much clearer mental picture of the size and layout of a fighting ship. The plot draws pieces from several different books, but I thought it worked fine.
