I was reading elsewhere about pairings people hate, and two HP ones I actually like came up a lot.
Thoughts on Harry/Draco
I admit, I have a weakness for this pairing, but I can't stand the little fangirls who turn Draco into a sweet misunderstood little woobie just because they think Tom Felton is OMG TEH HAWT. You have to do a lot of thinking to make it happen; you can't just suddenly decide Draco's a sweetie-pie.
It has always struck me that Canon!Draco is written with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's obviously deliberate. I mean, we start off not liking Snape much, but almost right away we're given reason to doubt that he's completely horrible. And, of course, as the story progresses, he becomes a sympathetic character. You may not like him, but you can understand him. (And I like him. I like the snarkiness.) Not so with Draco. As written he's a mean, petty little racist, full of himself for no real reason of merit. I think that if Rowling had plans to redeem him--which is not the same thing as him being redeemable--we would have seen hints of it by now.
BUT! I'm intrigued by the time and energy he and Harry spend on hating each other, and by how Draco can be seen as a sort of cautionary example for Harry. There but for the grace of the Sorting Hat goes he. Or so he seems to fear, at least a little bit. In a world where things were just a little different, I can see how the attraction could be there. It would obviously have to be post-Hogwarts and post-Draco redemption, but I can see it. And I likey. :-)
Thoughts on Remus/Sirius
Gah. How can one not see this? How can one not like it?
OK, emotional outburst over. :)
No, I lie. This is my favorite pairing. No one will convince me it's not true. If Rowling says it isn't, I will put my fingers in my ears and sing La la la. But I don't think I'll have to. I think she wrote, if not actually thinking of them as lovers, at least with an awareness that they could be read that way, and consciously not definitively stating otherwise.
Other random thoughts
I could kind of see Snape's hatred of James being sublimated attraction, and someone more talented than I could probably make a damn good story out if it. Heh, and probably has.
I don't think it is, I just think it would be interesting if it were. I think it's more pure envy of a boy who gets everything he wants, easily, and is kind of full of himself about it, while Snape has to struggle for every little thing.

I must agree totally. Gah indeed.
RE: Draco
Who knows--perhaps Draco is merely a product of his warped upbringing, and a little love and maybe getting lost in Muggle London would do him good?
However, I would *love* for someone to point out that Crabbe and Goyle's lack of brains probably results from massive amounts of inbreeding. Honestly, someone needs to teach a basic bio class at that school!
