I think I'm offended by that skating movie they've stuck Michelle Trachtenburg in, because from what I can tell, it goes "I'm super-smart, but I'm actually worthless until I look pretty in skimpy sequinned outfits."

If anyone doesn't want to take the time to watch House, I have divined the plot of every episode just from the previews. (Note that I have never seen an episode myself.)

Random patient: unconsciousness/mysterious symptoms/no apparent ill health except that he happens to be dying
House to parents/spouse: Tell me the truth about why they're sick, or I'll whack you one with my cane.
Patient: gets worse
House to parents/spouse/board of hospital folks: If this person dies, it'll be your fault for standing in my way, you cretins.
Patient: almost dies
House: saves the day with magic/more hostility/something no one else thought of trying

It's eerily accurate, isn't it?

It is beautifully windy outside.

:: stepping back to cast an assessing gaze::

Well, that's two snarky opinions flung upon two different things you've never seen.

Rough day, sweetheart?

No, I've been saving up snarky opinions.

But seriously, that Ice Princess thing? Shows the girl getting an A+ on a math test, implies that she routinely does this, but then competing as a skater is the only thing she cares about? Is this not sending the message that being really smart is not good enough until you are also cute and athletic?

Maybe it's just giving me flashbacks to too many Hermione makeover fics.

Um... No...
It means that being intelligent and educated is not necessarily the key to happiness. Some people find their happiness through artistic or athletic expressions (figure skating is both).
Are the guitar-grinding hotties that you lust after assinine for wanting to pursue something other than academia? She sounds like a well-rounded person to me.

The thing that bothers me is that it seems to be presented as: even though she's really smart, she's a loser until she succeeds at skating.

Maybe in the movie she is brilliant but doing what everyone expects her to instead of what she loves, but that doesn't come across in the previews. They make it seem like she sudeenly decides she'll be a skater 'cause being brilliant just isn't cool enough. That's the assumption that pisses me off.

What pisses me off is that it's Disney, which means we won't get any Trachtenberg flesh! Bring on the hotness! *grin*

**haven't seen house either preface**

nah, once five babies were sick and he tried a different treatment on each one so killed four babies on purpose essentially. Pretty ballsy for network drama I think.

Course, I could be making this up too.

oh and you left out the part of him beating up on his interns (or whatever they are) mercilessly. that's like a good ten minutes each episode. Told the pretty girl that pretty girls don't become doctors unless they're broken inside. Which was their way of saying, HEY I know everyone shouldn't be beautiful on tv but we have to have a beautiful actress supporting role cause this is HOLLYWOOD but we're going to pretend like it makes sense anyways and shut up or house will hit you with his cane.

The point of House is Hugh Laurie. I understand there is a plot, sometimes, but I'm really there to gaze at Hugh's lovely self and wonderful timing.

The plot is pretty formulatic, I think most hospital shows are that way.

Hey, that's why I watch it too! Plot? There's a plot?

Yeah, like last night's had some chick in it, and I think there was something wrong with her, and she was loopy and had excellent shoes.

But now, House, I loved his thwarted dramatic music moment, and does he like what's her name--he seems like her? And what's up with Chase selling him out?

Oh, he definitely likes her. (No, I don't know her name either.) He just can't admit it. I mean, you could see it in his (wonderfullly blue) eyes.

Chase--dunno what's up with that. I like him usually (the accent helps, you know). Maybe he's still pissed over his dad.

Clone! You *must* watch House. Hugh Laurie is so lickably snarky that you will end up with a fetish for Vicodin-popping limpers. I lack words to encompass the hawt.

Heh. With that kind of recommendation, I have to give it a fair try.
